You can spend an evening comparing cars and still miss the question that will matter every morning: where, exactly, will you put it?
A car can look perfect in a listing and become inconvenient the first time you try to park outside your building. Or it can be the right size for town, yet leave you rearranging bags every time you take your family away. Before you become attached to a model, picture a week of using it.
Start with the journey you repeat
Think about your usual route, rather than the occasional holiday. A short trip across Tirana, a regular drive between Tirana and Durrës, and a working day spent carrying equipment create different needs. Write down who travels with you, what you carry and the places where the car has to fit. This gives your search a purpose before engine sizes and trim names take over.
It also changes the questions you ask a seller. Instead of asking whether a car is comfortable, ask to adjust the seat yourself and sit in the back behind it. Instead of guessing at the boot from a photograph, bring the pushchair, work case or bag you regularly use, with the seller's agreement. A measurement can settle a question that ten flattering photographs cannot.
Parking is part of owning the car
If your building has a narrow entrance, measure the opening and consider the space needed to turn. Check the vehicle's dimensions for the exact version you are viewing. Mirrors, doors and the height of an open tailgate can matter as much as the length. A camera or parking sensor can help, but it cannot create room where there is none.
During a viewing, try the ordinary movements. Can you get in without difficulty? Is the loading edge convenient? Can a passenger enter when another car is parked nearby? If children will use the rear seats, check the relevant restraint arrangements against the vehicle and child-seat instructions. Avoid assuming that every version of the same model has identical equipment.
Ask what you would have to sort out first
A clean interior tells you little about the next service. Ask which maintenance records are available, what has recently been replaced, what is currently not working and whether an independent mechanic can inspect the car. An honest description of a fault is more useful than a vague promise that everything is perfect.
Keep the buying price separate from what you may need to spend before using the car comfortably. Get actual quotes for work and other ownership costs that apply to you. A low advertised price is only one part of the decision, and a higher price does not prove a better maintenance history.
Make the viewing answer a real question
When you arrange a visit, explain what you need to check and agree on enough time. Do not treat a short test drive as a substitute for a proper inspection. If a key point remains unclear, keep looking or arrange the appropriate check before committing.
