You have found an apartment that seems to fit your budget. The rooms look bright, the kitchen looks tidy and the map puts it somewhere convenient. Then a question interrupts the excitement: is the apartment in the photographs exactly what is being offered?
That is worth settling before you arrange a viewing. A useful first conversation does not need to feel like an interrogation. It just needs to turn an attractive listing into a clear offer you can compare with another one.
Ask what the quoted rent covers
Start with the rental period. Is the home being offered for the length of time you need, and is the quoted amount for that same arrangement? This matters particularly when an apartment might also be offered for shorter stays. Confirm the available move-in date instead of assuming that a visible listing means you could move tomorrow.
Then separate the rent from other costs. Ask which bills or building charges are paid separately, how they are calculated and what amount is due before moving in. Do not turn somebody's rough estimate into your own fixed budget. Where a charge varies, ask what information is available and make room for that uncertainty when comparing homes.
A furnished room is not an inventory
Some things in the photographs may belong to the current occupant. Ask which furniture and appliances remain. If a washing machine, desk or air conditioner is important to you, name it. “Furnished” can mean different things to different people, and a room that looks ready to live in may still need purchases.
During the viewing, check the items you have been told are included. With permission, open cupboards, look at storage and ask to see appliances operate. Measure the place where your own furniture would go. A photograph cannot tell you whether your bed fits without blocking a door.
Visit with one question about your own life
A remote worker may need a room where a call is possible. Someone starting early may care more about bedroom noise than a large living room. A household with a pushchair may need to understand the entrance, stairs and lift. Decide what could make the home difficult for you, then use the visit to investigate it.
Stand by the windows and listen. Look at the light in the rooms at the time of your visit, and remember that it may change during the day. Ask about heating and cooling arrangements, water supply and maintenance responsibilities. If a condition needs specialist assessment, a quick viewing is not a substitute for it.
Keep the comparison clear after you leave
It is surprisingly easy to mix up apartments after three viewings. Write a short note for each one: what was confirmed, what remains unanswered and what you would need to buy or arrange. Keep estimates separate from agreed amounts. Ask for important terms in writing before committing, and make sure the person offering the property is entitled to do so.
The strongest choice is not necessarily the apartment with the most impressive photograph. It is the one whose terms and practical details you understand well enough to decide. If a basic question keeps receiving a vague answer, that is a reason to pause.
